Symantec upgrades key products

13 April 2010

Symantec announced a range of new products today designed to lock down business IT assets. It unveiled version 10 of its Control Compliance Suite, Data Loss Prevention Suite 10.5, Altiris IT Management Suite 7.0, and its Symantec Protection Suites.

The new version of the Symantec Control Compliance Suite features a range of new dynamic web-based dashboards to help people in different roles access the right information quickly. It will also be integrated with Symantec Data Loss Prevention, which the company says will make it easier to automate the collection and management of evidence from external sources.

A new Vulnerability Manager will also be included in Control Compliance Suite. It will provide customers with visibility into vulnerabilities across different managed and unmanaged systems on their networks, Symantec said, and the software will also include a new centralized evidence collection and management system. It ships in the second half of this year.

The latest version of Symantec Data Loss Prevention includes support for social media. Support for sites such as Twitter, YouTube, MySpace, Facebook, and LinkedIn makes it easier to stop the flow of sensitive data out of an organization via those channels, Symantec said. The software also features new end point event coverage for workstations running virtualized software. And, as previously reported by Infosecurity, it includes a new product called Symantec Data Insight, which enables administrators to discover who 'owns' data within an organization.

The Altiris IT Management Suite is designed to automate the Windows 7 migration process for administrators. Available now, it includes Altiris Client Management Suite, Server Management Suite, Asset Management Suite, Symantec ServiceDesk, Symantec Workflow, and Wise Package Studio Suite.

Finally, the Symantec Protection Suites, which will be available this summer, will come in editions for end points, the gateway, and servers. Essentially bundled selections of protection products targeting each area, they will revolve around the Symantec Protection Center, a single sign-on web console giving administrators access to configuration management, report generation, and dashboard views of the different protection products in each suite.
